Suburbs are less white and Christian right
In today's WaPo, E.J. Dionne points out that the political landscape is shifting in the suburbs and exurbs in what were pretty red states. He notes: "The suburbs are changing demographically as more nonwhites move in, and many suburban voters are turned off by the ideological politics of the right, particularly the Christian right."
Suburbs are, of course, the home of the megachurchs -- but also increasing numbers of house foreclosures and real domestic concerns. Dionne notes the brewing showdown in Northern Virginia between the old world of social conservatives and the increasingly manifest desire for competence and results from elected representation.

As I have mentioned to Dan Nejfelt, Snyder Memorial, not exactly the prototype of a Christian Right church will be a most interesting case study for somebody in the FINPublife to take a look at. The church meshes as military and academic community with leading civic leaders in the town in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Here is some interesting news. The Former President of Baylor, Sloan, man well covered by Randall Balmer in CT in fall 2002 has joined the Christian Right Megachurch 2nd Houston in Houston Texas.
You can almost biblically trace the lineage of negads from Pastor Ed Young to his disciple Harry Dent, who begat Lee Atwater who begat Karl Rove.
