It's interviews like these that make me very hopeful. Do the Evangelicals Cizik represents agree with other progressives on every issue? No. But more "green" congregations are going to make a difference for the planet right now, and Cizik's warning that evangelicals will take the environment into consideration when casting their votes should catch the attention of politicians of all stripes.

I can only hope that with the shift in focus among Christian denominations in America towards more pressing social needs (environment, poverty, healthcare, etc.) that politicians will take heed. Hopefully during the upcoming election cycle this shift will empower candidates to openly discuss these issues as moral imperatives. This might even result in a chipping away at the Republican base unless conservative candidates take heed.
