I couldn't agree with you more. That's why Huckabee as a candidate is a scary thing! Americans have a right to believe in whatever they wish, or, not to believe at all. That's what we're all about. Please reconsider & run, VP Gore. I'm only supporting Obama because you're not in the race. Please, please run!!

Gore said that instucting children about how to believe in God in school sounds like a good idea but can lead to trouble. I might add that there is a distinction between religious instruction and moral instruction. I think that most parents do want their children to learn certain morals and values in school, for example respect for self and others, discipline, altruism and volunteerism. These are values that serve the common good and are found in most religious and secular value systems. Taking "God" out of school does not take morality/ethics out of school. Each family is free to teach their children about their unique and special religious beliefs about God, the world, and specific (and usually personal) moral issues. In school, children learn about the common good values that unite us and make us a more compassionate people (and you're still free to believe that even those values come from God).

The Seperation of Church and State simply implied that the federal, not state governments will not mandate one religion over another. But it says nothing about celebrating on public land which should be open to all. The towns you live should be able to deside what educational teachings should be taught to students. Like math, history, bible doctrine, scieance and so on.
